Our Story

We strive to help rebuild the lives of Syrian refugees one thread at a time.
We create a powerful link by providing an online market for Canadians to purchase quality handmade pieces knitted by women displaced by the crisis in Syria.

TKS was inspired in March 2013 by a group a little girls met during a visit to the Olive Tree Refugee Camp in Northern Syria. One very outgoing and assertive little girl started a frenzy when she proudly shared with us a purple dress she hand knitted herself. Soon after, several other girls approached us with their own creations. They also expressed their concern, not about the lack of food or water, but about yarn! We asked them what colors they are looking for? They requested every color imaginable. That same night, we started writing out the plan for Tight-Knit Syria.

We’re not your business type. Were just two girls navigating this world, its brilliant opportunities and more importantly its brilliant people…
Tight-Knit Syria is the brain child of long time friends Dana Kandalaft and Genevieve Dauphinee, who both bring unique (and many times opposite) perspectives, skill-sets and backgrounds to the organization. Were indisputably tied by our faith in the cultural power of fashion, fair business and the fight for universal freedoms in Syria. Dana is a Syrian-Canadian with a background in sustainable fashion and international development. Gen is an expert in international business, combining both her passion for traveling the globe and project management.
